Bikers and Backpackers Seek Justice for Spanish Woman | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Bikers and backpackers community on Sunday launched an online campaign demanding arrest of the Dumka gang rape accused prompting the Jharkhand tourism department for the first time to speak over the issue.
Out on a biking trip across India with her husband, the 28-year-old Spanish woman was gang-raped by seven persons in Dumka district on Friday late night.
Police swung into action after the woman approached a police patrol van for help.
The couple shared their ordeal in a video message on her Instagram account, triggering a chain of reaction from different communities over law and order situation in the state.
On Sunday, travellers across the world took to X and other social media platforms seeking justice for the rape survivor.
A Seraikela-Kharsawan-born solo tribal biker Kanchan Ugursandi, who has been vocal since Saturday, in the morning shared a picture of her helmet on X with a message: “Till now you have seen my picture and videos of riding motorcycles bearing a happy face, but no one saw the tears under my helmet.”
Throughout the day, she posted quite a few messages blaming the govt for poor law and order situation in the state.
“My intention is not to destroy image of any personal property, company or tourist places. I’m directly targeting govts and law enforcement agencies of Jharkhand, W. Bengal,” read her another post on X.
Another X user Major Mukesh Kapila (retd) said: “Shocked to see the story on instagram. The culprit must be hanged by setting up fast track court no mercy for this act. @BikerGirlkancha @Amysharma77 @spain @SpainInTheUSA #Hansdihapolicestation.”
The posts on various social media platforms prompted the state tourism department to issue a statement in the evening. It read, “We at Jharkhand tourism express our deepest heartfelt grief over the recent incident in Dumka, Jharkhand. Our thoughts are with the victim during this difficult time. We condemn such heinous acts and stand in solidarity with efforts to ensure justice and safety for all individuals in our community. Law enforcement agencies are progressing in their efforts to take stringent action against the culprits. The department of tourism is committed to establishing safe space for Tourists.”
