Last week students from SHS visited the city of Albacete in the Castilla-La-Mancha region of Spain, as part of their GCSE and A Level Spanish studies.

This exchange trip is part of a strong 12-year partnership between SHS and three high schools in Albacete: IES Al-Basit, IES Alto de los Molinos and IES Amparo Sanz.

UK students and staff were fully immersed in Spanish language and culture – staying with peers who will then come to stay with them in the Stroud area in April.

Year 10 students experienced cultural trips to Cuenca and Valencia, as well as a number of local and school-based activities, whilst Year 12 students took part in a work-shadowing programme in Albacete.

Stroud High School teacher of Spanish, Ms Sally Haigh, said: “The improvements in Spanish and in personal confidence are immeasurable and feedback collected from the participants is glowing on all counts.

“Many students, and their families, stay in touch for years after their exchange experience and make visits back and forth on a regular basis, several have gone back to spend longer periods of time in the area to study or work.”
