Jon Rahm reaction: Why Spanish golfer looked miserable before Scottie Scheffler’s Masters green jacket ceremony | Sporting News

The Masters has a long tradition of the reigning champion bestowing the green jacket on the new champion.

Jon Rahm looked like he might have just been thrilled to skip that ceremony.

Rahm had the green jacket given to him by Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 champion, a year ago. In 2024, Rahm had to give Scheffler his second green jacket after Scheffler shot 11 under, including 4 under during the final round. Rahm made the cut but tied for 45th at 9 over.

And awaiting the official green jacket ceremony in the Butler Cabin, Rahm looked less than pleased to be sticking around at the end of the weekend in Augusta.

There’s no surprise Rahm wound up looking displeased at having to stick around. It’s been a long weekend for the two-time major champion. During the first day of the Masters, Rahm could be heard on a hot mic yelling several profanities beginning with an F after he sliced his drive right.

The next day, Rahm complained publicly about playing in the blustery conditions that impacted plenty of golfers.

“A couple times, [I found myself] questioning why we were out there,” Rahm said, per GolfDigest, “especially when I got to 18 and saw the whole front of the green just full of sand. It’s rolling a little bit different. I understand they want us to finish.

Following an even-par performance on Saturday, Rahm described passing the green jacket on to someone else as a “bit of a sour feeling knowing you’re not in contention,” and described it as “a little different” than last year.

And in an interview with Golf Channel Latin America, Rahm said he was met with a cold shoulder by several PGA Tour players following his move to LIV Golf.

Rahm, for his part, at least looked a little more upbeat officially placing the jacket on Scheffler’s shoulders in the official ceremony. But after the week he had, he’s probably ready to clear out of Augusta.
