The 2024 NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone. NBA teams made moves to improve, and some teams made moves to position themselves for the future. When looking at winning a 2024 NBA Title, a few teams gave themselves a chance. Let’s take a look at the NBA Trade Deadline Recap and give some winners and losers along the way:

Winners:

New York Knicks

First, the Knicks grabbed OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa from Toronto. That has paid dividends since New Year’s.  They then went and got Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks. Those guys are all added to a roster full of really solid basketball players. The Knicks got better, and deeper, without allowing a single first-round pick to leave the franchise. The Knicks were wise during the NBA Trade Deadline season, and now it will be interesting how they play as the postseason arrives.

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder are one of the biggest surprises in the National Basketball Association, as they are at the top of the Western Conference. It is not going to be easy to hold off Minnesota, Denver, or the Clippers, but a great first half was fantastic for his franchise. The Thunder did not go out and get a superstar, but the addition of Gordon Hayward is going to help this team.  Hayward should fit in well with Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and the boys. While they are going to be the inexperienced team, and likely the underdog, they do have a legitimate chance at winning the Western Conference. The Thunder did not mortgage the future either, keeping their first-round picks.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers needed some help shooting the basketball. While they did not trade for Steph Curry, they did get a really good option. Buddy Hield is a three-point shooter at heart and should be able to help up down the stretch. The 76ers are hoping Joel Embiid can come back from his injury. Without him, the 76ers are not going anywhere in the postseason. So, this move could be risky, but they did improve their team for a postseason run.

Losers:

Chicago Bulls

How can you let a large market team like the Chicago Bulls literally just sit around and do nothing? Sure, you could not find a trade partner for Zach LaVine. Then, he got hurt. But, nothing for DeMar DeRozan or Alex Caruso?  The Bulls are in the playoff picture, as they are the 9th seed, so if they are settling for just getting in, they are doing a good job. It seems the Chicago front office is not doing a very good job of taking advantage of opportunities. The Chicago Bulls lost the NBA Trade Deadline season.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks got PJ Washington to add to the mix, but they really wanted to go pick up a two-way wing to help out with Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and company. It does not seem like they had much in the mix, and just did not get the job done. When the Mavericks say they are trying to win the NBA Finals, getting third-best players from teams like Charlotte and Washington seems to be a pretty bold way of doing it. The Mavericks did not move the needle at the deadline.

Denver Nuggets

Maybe the defending NBA Champions can win the title again with the roster they have. It is possible that the Nuggets are willing to go with second-year guy Peyton Watson off the bench when push comes to shove. It would have not been surprising to see the Nuggets try to add some depth. They did not, and that is a choice that could certainly hurt them against some of the younger, athletic teams in the Western Conference playoff picture. Denver still leads the NBA Odds to win the title from the Western Conference.

There you have it. It should be a great rest of the season in the National Basketball Association. There are some winners and losers when it comes to the result of the NBA Trade Deadline. Enjoy the rest of the season and good luck with any and all of your NBA betting picks!
