It seems that, through his language learning, Luis Enrique is trying to manifest a Paris Saint-Germain victory over Borussia Dortmund. “On va gagner,” the French for “We are going to win,” is the only full sentence he knows in French, he revealed.

Luis Enrique, so often confrontational with the media, is yet to master French. His press conferences continue to be held in Spanish, whilst many of his post-match interviews, often pitch-side, are often done in English. However, during his first nine months in the French capital, he has mastered one sentence: “On va gagner.”

That is, more often than not, true. Luis Enrique’s PSG side have won 20 out of their 31 matches in the league, have already won the Trophée des Champions, are in the Coupe de France final and are in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. However, his side did suffer a rare loss in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.

Regardless, he remains confident of qualifying for what would be Les Parisiens’ second-ever Champions League final. In a video, posted on social media, the Spaniard told a PSG fan, “On va gagner.” Questioned on his confidence in Monday’s press conference, he responded: “It’s the only sentence I know in French! (laughs) ‘On va gagner, sûr!’ I like that phrase,” said the PSG manager.

Luis Enrique’s confidence is echoed by Kylian Mbappé, who will compete in his final Champions League game for Les Parisiens at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night. He will be hoping to make it a special night.
