SOPRON (Hungary) – Spain have named their roster for the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 in Sopron and are ready to hand forward Megan Gustafson a highly anticipated  debut.

The London Lions star will add some much-needed power and poise for Spanish playcaller Miguel Mendez as his team prepares to step out in the toughest of all the groups against Canada, Japan and host nation Hungary.

After missing out on the last FIBA global event at the Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney, Spain will be doing everything they can to leap back to the top table and take a precious Olympic ticket.

As well as Gustafson, Spain will rely on an array of EuroLeague Women stars and many of the players who have provided the backbone to their success across the last decade or so.

None more than the likes of Alba Torrens and Laura Gil. The former continues to lead the team and comes into the competition having been named on the ALL-Star Five at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023. Meanwhile Gil has been rolling back the years with some excellent displays at club level.

Maria Conde and Maite Cazorla are colleagues at ZVVZ USK Praha and they will bring the noise in plenty of ways, with Queralt Casas, Leo Rodriguez and Cristina Ouvina all adding further impact in the backcourt and the wings.

Mariona Ortiz has been rewarded for her good form with Casademont Zaragoza, while there will be big excitement around Raquel Carrera going to work with Gustafson in the paint. The Valencia forward is continuing to establish herself as one of Spain’s leading lights with every passing tournament.

Spain tip off their campaign on Thursday February 8 against Japan.
