Telemundo is riding the longest ratings winning streak it’s ever had in Spanish-language television.

The NBCUniversal-owned network has topped Univision in primetime for two consecutive months, closing out April with substantial leads over its rival. Telemundo averaged 1.2 million total viewers and 344,000 adults 18-49 for the month, topping Univision by margins of 21 percent and 22 percent in the two measures.

That’s a big change among the Spanish-language broadcasters, where Univision has long been the leader (and still holds the edge for the 2023-24 season as a whole).

The two-month streak has been powered by the reality series La Casa de los Famosos — a version of Celebrity Big Brother — and Telemundo’s long-running novela El Señor de los Cielos, which is currently in its ninth season. La Casa de los Famosos led all of Spanish-language TV in April, with weeknight editions averaging 1.4 million viewers and 387,000 adults 18-49. Sunday episodes checked in at 1.3 million viewers and 374,000 people in the key ad-sales demographic. The show has also seen increased viewing on Peacock for both full episodes and a round-the-clock live stream.

El Señor de los Cielos, meanwhile, led the 18-49 demographic in April with 356,000 viewers in that age range. The drama also gets a 22 percent lift in the demo via digital viewing — the best such performance ever for a Telemundo scripted series.

“The overwhelming and continued response from our audience to our primetime programming reconfirms our direct connection to Hispanic viewers and motivates us to continue delivering relevant content that resonates with them,” Telemundo president and chief content officer Ronald Day said in a statement. “Night after night, we strive to offer our audience the right mix of great scripted storytelling together with the best in real-life celebrity drama to keep them engaged across all platforms.”
