It was on 9 June 1946 that Real Madrid lifted their eighth Spanish Cup. The opponent was Valencia and the match was played at Montjuïc in Barcelona. Our team dominated from the start and took the lead thanks to an early Barinaga goal. Pruden‘s brace would then increase their lead. Valencia pulled one back in the closing stages from the penalty spot.
To reach the final at Montjuïc, the madridistas beat Racing de Ferrol, Ceuta, Alcoyano and Real Oviedo in the knock-out rounds, which were played over two legs. The Madrid squad was coached by Jacinto Quincoces that season.
