The Irish low-cost fashion firm Primark has announced that it will open a new shop in Spain this summer 2021. Spain’s newest Primark will be located in Malaga in La Cañada Shopping Centre in Marbella and will open on 24th August. How many Primark stores are in Spain? With this opening, the company’s total number of shops in Andalusia rises to 12 and there will now be 52 Primark stores in Spain in total.

The new Primark store in Marbella has more than 4,000m2 of retail space over 2 floors and will create 100 new jobs in the region. The shop will also feature extensive security measures to help protect employees and customers while the pandemic continues, according to the company.

Customers in Marbella will be able to find in-store “Primark’s famous fashion with the latest summer trends, including Primark product ranges made from sustainable, recycled and organic materials, as well as new licensed product ranges and everyday essentials, all at affordable prices,” the company adds.

And this is just one of Primark’s planned openings this year. 2021 will also see a new Primark store in Vigo (in the Vialia shopping centre), and this store will be the largest Primark in Galicia. In addition, at the end of 2021, the company will land in the Bahía Sur shopping centre in San Fernando (Cádiz), where it will have a 3,000m2 shop, and will open another 3,900m2 store in the Garbera shopping centre in San Sebastián. Spain will therefore lead the Primark’s shop expansion this year, despite being one of its most mature markets.

In 2022, Primark will open its second flagship store in Madrid, which will be located on Calle Conde de Peñalver, and will also arrive in Girona, where it will occupy a 3,700m2 shop spread over 2 floors in the Espai Gironès shopping centre. With these openings, Primark will reach 57 points of sale in the Spanish market in 2022.

And Primark did not stop growing in Spain even in 2020, a year where COVID-19 took centre stage, when it opened shops in Seville (in the Lagoh shopping centre), León and Barcelona, where it opened its first flagship store in Plaza Cataluña.

Primark is the third largest retailer in Spain by number of customers, with 7.7 million shoppers between January and October 2020, according to the latest available data from Kantar. It is only surpassed by El Corte Inglés and Decathlon, and behind it are other retail giants such as Carrefour, Zara and H&M.
